ABOUT
Hailing from Brixton, South London, music producer and composer Robert Kiruta-Kigozi (also known by his alias R-Kay) caught the musical bug from an early age. He started playing cello at the age of 10 as part of his classical training at CYM (The Centre For Young Musicians, part of Guildhall School of Music). Robert then went on to pick up piano, mostly by learning to play his favourite songs by ear.
Coupled with his exposure to an array of genres through his family’s music collection throughout childhood, Robert developed a strong interest in music production after attending a summer workshop aged 14. He began to see how he could merge his understanding of classical music with his innate love for hip-hop and jazz. Under his alias R-Kay, he has built a growing roster of collaborations with some of the UK's most promising talent from the Hip-Hop, R&B, and Soul scenes, including Lex Amor, Kadeem Tyrell, Emil, and Jaz Karis, to name a few.
In 2023, R-Kay was credited as a producer on Noname’s highly anticipated album, Sundial, co-producing "beauty supply" alongside fellow UK producer and close collaborator Emil. In 2025, he went on to contribute to "A Murder of Crows" — the collaborative album between Emil and Mick Jenkins — co-producing the track deadstock.
As a composer, Robert earned his first major composition credits in 2020, scoring for the Channel 4 commissioned documentary “Damilola: The Boy Next Door”, narrated by presenter and DJ Yinka Bokinni. In 2025, he composed the score for “More Life”, a film directed by Bradley Banton and starring Tuwaine Barrett, Paapa Essiedu, Dipo Ola, and Jordan Peters, which was featured as part of the BFI London Film Festival 2025.
Robert continues to build on his growing presence in both music and film, with a focus on creating impactful work across genres and collaborating with world-class artists, directors, and producers.
